With the debate still going on in the cricketing circles, whether Rohit Sharma has rested himself for the final Test against Australia at Sydney or was he dropped from the side by the Coach Gautam Gambhir. A new report has emerged, which states that all rounder Hardik Pandya could replace Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain.

Earlier there were reports that Rohit Sharma might get rested for the home ODI series against England next month. But, now as per the latest report by MyKhel which quoted an unnamed BCCI source, There is a possibility that Hardik Pandya could replace “The Hitman” as ODI captain in the upcoming series against England.

And, if all goes well he could lead the team India in the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled to take place in Dubai & Pakistan this year.

The unnamed BCCI source said:

“Hardik has the knack for leading in high-pressure situations, and his experience as an all-rounder and leader makes him an ideal choice for an ICC tournament like the Champions Trophy.”

The source has further ruled out the possibility of giving the ODI team charge to the Mr.360 of Indian cricket & T20I Captain SuryaKumar Yadav & Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill.

As per the source:

“Gill needs more grooming to mature into a leader, and SKY’s ODI performances haven’t been convincing enough. Hardik remains the most balanced option to lead India in ODIs if Rohit is unavailable.”

With MCG seen as Rohit’s last match in whites for India, this also raises dark clouds over his participation in the upcoming ICC Champions trophy if the BCCI takes away the captaincy from him.

The Gujarat born all-rounder had earlier replaced Rohit as Mumbai Indians captain in the year 2023. The transition between Hardik to Rohit was like a ship sailing in the North sea in winters. Also, unlike his test stats the ODI stats of Mumbai batter Rohit are in his favour. Streets still remember how he had led the team India in Cricket World Cup 2023.

So far, Hardik Pandya took charge of the Men in blue in 16 T20I’s out of which India tasted success for 10 times.
