Temba Bavuma has emerged as South Africa’s finest Test captain. Taking charge during a challenging period for South African Test cricket, Bavuma revitalized the team and led them to their first-ever World Test Championship (WTC) final.

The added responsibility of leadership has brought out the best in Bavuma’s batting, making him a more consistent performer. Under his captaincy, South Africa has become a strong Test side, and his performances with the bat speak volumes about his growth as a player.

Bavuma Outshines Kohli and Rohit

Before becoming captain, Bavuma scored 2797 runs at an average of 34.53. However, since taking the reins, his batting has significantly improved, with 716 runs at an impressive average of 55.07.

Among Test captains in the last decade, only New Zealand’s Kane Williamson has a better average (61.81). Bavuma’s average as a skipper is far ahead of Indian captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Rohit’s average as a captain in the last 10 years is just 30.58, while Kohli’s stands at 30. These numbers highlight Bavuma’s dominance in the longest format.

Bavuma and Rickleton’s Century Puts South Africa Ahead

In the ongoing second Test against Pakistan, South Africa’s batting got off to a good start, with the openers adding 61 runs for the first wicket. However, Pakistan struck back, taking three quick wickets before lunch and putting the hosts under pressure.

Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickleton then steadied the ship with a strong partnership. Rickleton smashed his second Test century, showcasing great form, while Bavuma also hammered his maiden Test century against Pakistan.
