The Perth Scorchers avoided a disastrous outing at the Perth Stadium, thanks to a brilliant knock by Ashton Agar. Coming in when the team was struggling at 67/5, Agar scored an unbeaten 51 off 30 balls to guide the Scorchers to a respectable total of 147/8 in their seventh match of the Big Bash League season.

Batting first, the Scorchers had a shaky start as their top-order collapsed early. Finn Allen gave the team a quick start, smashing 19 off 12 balls, but he fell to Will Sutherland in the third over. Mitchell Marsh followed soon after, getting trapped lbw for a golden duck on the very next ball.

The middle order couldn’t stabilize either, with Cooper Connolly and captain Ashton Turner departing cheaply. Aaron Hardie tried to hold one end with a 34-run knock off 34 balls, but his dismissal in the 15th over left the Scorchers in deep trouble at 86/6.

Ashton Agar Takes Charge

With the team in trouble, Ashton Agar stepped up and played a match-saving innings. He smashed one boundary and four sixes during his 51-run knock, maintaining a strike rate of 170. Agar found some support from Jhye Richardson, who added a quick 12 off seven balls before falling to Adam Zampa.

Agar’s efforts in the final overs ensured that the Scorchers reached a competitive total. The left-hander remained unbeaten, anchoring the innings and helping the team avoid an embarrassing collapse.

Perth Scorchers have won three and lost three from their six matches so far this season. Agar’s knock will give the team some hope as they aim to bounce back in this crucial encounter.
