India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah might miss the upcoming ODI series against England. This decision could be taken to ensure he is fully fit for the Champions Trophy next month. The white-ball series, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs, begins on January 22, with the ODIs starting from February 9.
Bumrah was already expected to miss the T20I matches, but there were hopes of him playing at least one ODI. However, his participation is now uncertain due to the back injury he suffered during the fifth Test against Australia last week.
Jasprit Bumrah to Consult Doctors
A final decision about Bumrah’s availability will be made soon. The severity of his injury is still unclear. Official reports suggest he experienced back spasms, which kept him from bowling in Australia’s second innings during the Sydney Test.
According to a Sports Tak report, Bumrah will consult both the BCCI medical team and the New Zealand doctor who treated his back injury in March 2023. A source revealed that further assessments will determine the extent of his injury and the recovery plan. If rest is required, it will be prioritized to ensure he is ready for the Champions Trophy.
Depending on the injury’s grade, Bumrah may need a recovery period of two weeks to three months. The BCCI is hopeful that the pacer will be fit in time for the ICC tournament, which starts on February 19.
