Mitchell Marsh’s much-awaited return to the Big Bash League (BBL) ended in disappointment. Playing for the Perth Scorchers after three years, the Australian T20 captain was dismissed for a golden duck against the Melbourne Renegades.
Facing Will Sutherland, Marsh attempted to drive a delivery that nipped back sharply. The ball hit him on the pads, and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. Marsh looked prepared for the decision even before the appeal was made.
This was Marsh’s first BBL appearance since the 2022 final, where he helped the Scorchers defeat the Sixers. His return didn’t go as planned, and the Scorchers found themselves under pressure early in the game.

Sutherland, who claimed Marsh’s wicket, was on a hat-trick after also dismissing Fin Allen. Allen was unlucky, as a thick inside edge hit his thigh pad and lobbed into the air for an easy catch. However, Cooper Connolly successfully defended the hat-trick ball.
While Marsh’s return didn’t start as he had hoped, fans will be eager to see him bounce back in the upcoming matches.
