The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 Player Draft has been postponed due to logistical challenges. Initially planned for January 11 in Gwadar, the draft will now be held on January 13 at the Huzoori Bagh Fort in Lahore.

Gwadar, a port city in Balochistan, was chosen as the venue for the draft to inspire the local youth to take up cricket professionally. However, the decision faced criticism from franchise owners and logistical issues, leading to its relocation.

Concerns Over Gwadar as Venue

Franchise owners raised concerns about Gwadar being picked without proper communication. Multan Sultans owner Ali Jahangir Tareen shared that the decision was announced abruptly in the PSL WhatsApp group.

Tareen also highlighted complications for overseas players and coaches due to Gwadar’s limited international connectivity. He added that Balochistan’s travel policies conflicted with UK government guidelines, making it difficult for foreign staff to secure travel insurance.

The UK and US governments have issued advisories against non-essential travel to Balochistan, citing safety concerns. Moreover, foreign nationals require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to visit the province.

Rescheduling Amid Speculations

While PCB attributed the postponement to logistical challenges, some journalists speculated that rain predictions for January 11 in Gwadar were the real reason. However, weather forecasts indicated sunny conditions on the day.

The Player Draft will now take place in Lahore, with the broadcast beginning at 12:30 pm local time. The PSL 2025 season is set to start on April 8 and conclude with the final on May 19.

By addressing these challenges, the PCB aims to ensure a smooth draft process and a successful tenth edition of the tournament.
