India’s young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to be rewarded for his outstanding performance in the Test series against Australia. The left-handed opener scored 391 runs in his maiden tour, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer of the series. His consistent performances have caught the attention of the selectors, and he is expected to be picked for the upcoming ODI series against England and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Yashasvi started the series with a brilliant 161-run knock in Perth, helping India secure a massive 295-run victory. Though he struggled in the next two Tests, he bounced back in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne with scores of 82 and 84. His fighting knocks kept India in the contest until his dismissal, which allowed Australia to regain control and win the match.

ODI Debut on the Cards for Yashasvi Jaiswal

According to Revsportz, Yashasvi is likely to earn his maiden ODI call-up as a backup opener for the Champions Trophy. Currently capped in Tests and T20Is, the 21-year-old has been waiting for his ODI debut. With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill confirmed as India’s first-choice openers, Yashasvi could be included as a reserve option.

India’s squad for the Champions Trophy will also see a change in leadership. Reports suggest Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be named vice-captain for the tournament. Bumrah has previously served as vice-captain during an ODI series in 2022 and has led India in Tests and T20Is.
