Star cricketers Kane Williamson and Steve Smith are set to skip the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to prior commitments. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also sought clearance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for English players’ participation in the tournament, scheduled for April-May.
The PCB confirmed on Tuesday that several top players, including David Warner, Adil Rashid, and Mustafizur Rahman, will be part of the Platinum category in the players’ draft, set to take place on January 13.
Star Players in Platinum Category
The Platinum category, which features the highest-profile players, includes Australia’s Matthew Short and Riley Meredith. England’s Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Gus Atkinson, Tom Curran, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Adil Rashid are also part of the list.
From New Zealand, Finn Allen and Mark Chapman are confirmed, while Kane Williamson’s participation is subject to confirmation. Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka and West Indies’ Shai Hope have also made the cut.
However, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith have reportedly excused themselves from the PSL due to other commitments.
PCB’s Efforts to Attract Big Names
The PCB has been working hard to bring high-profile international players to the PSL, especially since this year’s tournament will overlap with the IPL. Many overseas stars not picked for the IPL are expected to participate in the PSL.
Other notable players in the Platinum category include Shakib Al Hasan (as a batter due to his bowling ban), Chris Lynn, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Tim Southee, Kusal Mendis, David Willey, Usman Khawaja, Zak Crawley, Michael Bracewell, and Alex Hales.
Australia’s Alex Carey and several other foreign players have been placed in the Diamond and Gold categories.
The PCB is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a competitive and star-studded tournament despite the clash with the IPL.
