Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has criticized Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, calling him a hypocrite. Tiwary said Gambhir doesn’t follow his own advice and surrounds himself with people who always agree with him.
Speaking to News18 Bangla, Tiwary shared his thoughts on Gambhir’s decisions and coaching methods. He claimed that Gambhir’s staff members, including Abhishek Nayar and Morne Morkel, lacked the freedom to make their own decisions. According to Tiwary, these coaches only agree with Gambhir.
“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn’t do what he says. The captain (Rohit Sharma) is from Mumbai, and Abhishek Nayar is also from Mumbai. There is no one to support players like Jalaj Saxena, who performs well but stays quiet. Whatever the coach says, others just agree with him,” Tiwary said.
Tiwary also spoke about the relationship between Gambhir and Rohit Sharma. He believes that the two might not work well together. He added that while Gambhir is known for leading Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL titles, the success was a team effort and not his alone.
“How will they work together? Rohit is a World Cup-winning captain, and Gambhir has won IPL titles, but those were team efforts. Players like Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine, and I also contributed to KKR’s success. Yet, Gambhir gets all the credit,” Tiwary added.
Gautam Gambhir’s Tough Start as Head Coach
India has struggled under Gambhir’s leadership. The team lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 to Australia and their first ODI series against Sri Lanka in 27 years. They were also whitewashed by New Zealand at home.
With upcoming series against England and the Champions Trophy, Gambhir’s role as head coach will be under the spotlight. These matches could determine his future with the Indian team.
