Sabbir Rahman’s breathtaking knock of 82* off just 33 balls was not enough to secure a win for Dhaka Capitals as Chittagong Kings chased down 178 with three balls to spare in Match 14 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25.
The game, held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, witnessed Sabbir’s sensational innings filled with nine sixes, but it was overshadowed by Chittagong’s solid batting performance.
Dhaka Capitals Set 177/5
Batting first, Dhaka Capitals posted 177/5 in their 20 overs, thanks largely to Sabbir Rahman’s heroic effort. The team struggled early on, losing Jason Roy in the first over for just 1 run, followed by Stevie Eskinazi (5 off 14) and Shahadat Hossain Dipu (9 off 10), who failed to provide stability.
Tanzid Hasan tried to hold the innings together with a patient 54 off 48 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. However, it was Sabbir who turned the innings around with his explosive hitting, scoring at a strike rate of 248.48. His knock included some spectacular shots in the death overs, propelling Dhaka Capitals to a competitive total.
Khaled Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Chittagong, taking 3 wickets for 21 runs in his four overs. Aliss Al Islam and Wasim picked up one wicket each, while the rest of the bowling unit struggled to contain Sabbir.
Chittagong Kings’ Chase
In response, Chittagong Kings chased down the target of 178 in 19.3 overs, finishing at 180/3. Opener Usman Khan played a crucial role at the top, scoring 55 off 33 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Graham Clark chipped in with 39 off 32, while Mohammad Mithun (33* off 22) and Shamim Hossain (30* off 14) ensured a comfortable finish.
Despite Dhaka Capitals’ efforts to put pressure on the Kings, their bowlers couldn’t hold their nerve in the middle and death overs. Mustafizur Rahman was economical with figures of 1/23 in his four overs, but the rest of the bowling unit struggled to contain the flow of runs.
