Sydney Thunder captain David Warner had a strange moment in the Big Bash League ( BBL) 2024-25 during their match against Hobart Hurricanes on January 10. While batting, Warner’s bat broke during a shot, and the broken part hit him on his helmet.
The unusual incident happened in the fourth over when Riley Meredith bowled a full delivery near the off-stump. Warner played the ball towards mid-on but didn’t get any runs. However, his bat broke, and a piece of it hit his head. Thankfully, Warner was unharmed.
The Big Bash League’s official X handle shared the clip with the caption: “David Warner’s bat broke and he’s hit himself in the head with it (laughing emoji).”

Riley Meredith had an eventful over. Later in the same over, he dismissed Sam Konstas, Warner’s opening partner. Meredith bowled a short ball, which Konstas tried to play past the keeper. Unfortunately for him, the ball hit his gloves and went straight to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.
