Mohammed Shami is set to return to international cricket as he has been named in India’s T20I squad for the five-match series against England. The experienced pacer has been away from the national team since November 2023 due to an ankle injury.

Shami’s road to recovery has been long. After his injury, he focused on gaining match fitness through domestic cricket. He played a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh, where he bowled 43 overs. He also participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), playing nine matches and taking crucial wickets, including two in the quarterfinal against Baroda.

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shami continued to show his skills, picking up five wickets in three matches. Despite his consistent efforts in domestic cricket, he was not considered for the recent Test series against Australia. However, after discussions with the medical team, the selectors were convinced of his fitness, leading to his inclusion in the T20I squad.

Shami’s return will bring depth and experience to India’s bowling attack, especially in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.
