The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against England. Mohammed Shami has made a return to the squad after being out of international cricket for over a year.
Shami was sidelined due to an ankle injury he suffered in November 2023. Since then, he has worked on his recovery and gained match fitness through domestic cricket. He bowled 43 overs in a Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh and played nine games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, he has claimed five wickets in three matches.
Although Shami was not considered for the recently concluded Test series against Australia, his performance in domestic cricket and fitness approval from the medical team helped him earn a place in the T20I squad.
Rishabh Pant Left Out of the Squad
Rishabh Pant has not been included in the squad for the England series. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube have also been overlooked. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, while young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh have retained their spots.
