The Rangpur Riders edged out the Khulna Tigers by 8 runs in a closely contested 20th match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Khushdil Shah’s explosive knock and Akif Javed’s brilliant bowling turned the tide in favor of the Riders.

Rangpur Riders Set a Challenging Target

Opting to bat first, Rangpur Riders posted a solid 186/5 in their 20 overs, powered by Khushdil Shah’s sensational unbeaten 73 off just 35 balls. His innings included 4 fours and 6 sixes, showcasing his destructive batting at the death. Tawfique Khan provided a steady start with a composed 36 off 30 balls, while Iftikhar Ahmed anchored the innings with 43 runs from 36 balls.

Among the Khulna bowlers, Abu Hider (2/37) and Hasan Mahmud (2/38) were the most successful, but the Riders’ batters dominated the middle overs, ensuring a strong finish.

Khulna Tigers’ Spirited Chase Falls Short

In reply, the Khulna Tigers got off to a decent start with Mohammad Naim leading the charge with a fluent 58 off 41 balls, supported by captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who struck a quick-fire 39 off 24 balls. Afif Hossain kept the chase alive with a blistering 29 off just 15 balls.

However, Rangpur’s disciplined bowling and timely breakthroughs tilted the game. Akif Javed emerged as the standout bowler for the Riders, claiming 3/29 in his 4 overs, including key wickets in the middle order. Mahedi Hasan (2/27) and Mohammad Saifuddin (2/28) added to the Tigers’ woes with crucial strikes.

Despite a valiant effort from the Tigers’ batters, their lower order faltered, losing quick wickets in the final overs. Khulna needed 10 runs off the last over but could only manage a single run, finishing at 178/9.
