The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced fresh guidelines for players following India’s poor show in recent Test series. A 0-3 defeat against New Zealand at home and a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia have raised concerns about the team’s performance.
During a review meeting with captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, BCCI officials discussed changes to improve focus and discipline within the team.
Limited Stay for Players’ Families
According to reports, the BCCI has decided to reintroduce pre-Covid rules regarding the presence of players’ families during tours. For series or tournaments longer than 45 days, players’ wives and family members will only be allowed to stay for 14 days. For shorter tours, the limit has been reduced to seven days.
This decision comes after concerns that family presence during entire tours might distract players. In the recent series against Australia, several cricketers, including Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, were accompanied by their wives throughout the tour.
Mandatory Team Travel
Another significant change is the rule about team travel. Players, regardless of their seniority, must now travel together in the team bus. Over the years, many players preferred solo travel arrangements, but this will no longer be allowed. The BCCI believes that traveling together will help strengthen team unity.
Restrictions on Gautam Gambhir’s Manager
The BCCI has also imposed restrictions on the personal manager of India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir. He will no longer stay at the team hotel or watch matches from the VIP box. Additionally, he will not be allowed to use the team bus.
These new measures aim to bring more focus, discipline, and team spirit to Indian cricket after a disappointing series down under. The BCCI hopes these changes will help players perform better in upcoming tournaments.
