Hobart Hurricanes extended their winning streak to six matches with a thrilling four-wicket victory over Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25.

Despite a sensational knock by Jacob Bethell, it was Tim David’s calm and composed finish that steered the Hurricanes to victory. With 7 needed off 4 balls, David smacked a six to seal the win.

Batting first, Melbourne Renegades posted a competitive total of 154/7 in their 20 overs, largely due to an outstanding innings by Bethell. The 20-year-old smashed 87 runs off 50 balls, including 8 boundaries and 4 sixes. He was eventually run out in the final over.

Riley Meredith was the pick of the Hurricanes’ bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 36 runs. Nathan Ellis, Mitchell Owen, and Tim David also contributed to the effort with tight bowling, limiting the Renegades to a score that seemed manageable.

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes lost early wickets, with Caleb Jewell dismissed cheaply for 1 and Mitchell Owen run out for 24. However, Nikhil Chaudhary (36) and Matthew Wade (36) stabilised the chase, but they fell to Bethell and his fellow bowlers.

With the score at 131/6, it was all down to the experienced Tim David to finish the job. With 7 needed off the last 4 balls, David displayed his match-winning ability. The big-hitting all-rounder struck a massive six, sealing the win for the Hurricanes and keeping their momentum rolling. The final score was 155/6 in 19.4 overs, with Nathan Ellis remaining not out on 5.
