India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is unlikely to play in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The player has been advised to take complete bed rest by his doctors after returning from a tough tour of Australia. Bumrah, who took 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is now at home to recover from his physical strain.
As per a report by the Times of India, Bumrah is expected to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. However, the exact date of his visit has not yet been decided.
Long Recovery Ahead for Bumrah
The report mentions that Jasprit Bumrah’s muscles need time to heal, and the swelling must reduce before doctors can decide the next steps. There is concern that Bumrah’s injury might take longer to heal than expected.
Former India strength and conditioning coach Ramji Srinivasan explained that swelling in muscles often results from tears, and the recovery time depends on the grade of the injury. He emphasized that Bumrah should be handled carefully, as injuries of this nature can worsen if not treated properly.
With the Champions Trophy starting on February 19 and India’s first match scheduled against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai, Bumrah’s chances of participating seem very slim. Stakeholders are not keen on rushing his recovery to avoid further complications.
