Young Pakistan pacer Ihsanullah has withdrawn his decision to retire from franchise cricket, less than 24 hours after announcing it. The 22-year-old had earlier expressed frustration over being left out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 draft, which led to his emotional decision.
Ihsanullah gained fame during PSL 8 with remarkable performances for Multan Sultans. He picked up 22 wickets at an economy rate of 7.59. Later he also earned a spot in Pakistan’s T20I squad. However, his rise was halted by a severe elbow injury during his debut ODI series against New Zealand. The injury and its alleged mishandling by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) caused him to lose his place in the national team.
Frustration Turns Into Determination for Ihsanullah
On January 14, Ihsanullah announced his retirement, citing disappointment over being overlooked in the PSL draft despite his consistent performances. However, on January 15, he clarified that the decision was made in a moment of frustration and that he had reconsidered.
“I take my decision back. No franchise picked me, and the comments of a lot of people pushed me over the edge. I’m going to work hard. There are four months before the PSL. The people who didn’t select me now will select me in the future. I have no plans to retire,” Ihsanullah told Geo Super.
Injury Mismanagement Raises Questions
Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen supported Ihsanullah during his rehabilitation, even providing financial assistance. While Ihsanullah remains determined to make a comeback, the PCB’s mishandling of his injury has sparked debate about player welfare in Pakistan cricket.
