Paarl Royals young opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius continues to impress with his powerful batting in SA20 2025. The Paarl Royals’ explosive batter has been in tremendous form, showing his ability to dominate opposition bowlers. In his debut match, Pretorius narrowly missed scoring a century, falling short by just three runs with an outstanding knock of 97.
In the second match, he scored a quickfire 26 runs off 12 balls. However, his latest innings against MI Cape Town at Boland Park was another standout performance. Pretorius took the Cape Town bowlers to the cleaners, smashing boundaries and sixes all over the ground.
A Heartbreaking Run Out
Pretorius was in full flow, and it looked like he was set for his maiden century in SA20. But his brilliant knock came to an unfortunate end in a bizarre manner.
On the final ball of the 17th over, Kagiso Rabada bowled a slower delivery that David Miller edged to long-off. Pretorius, looking to complete the second run, slipped while trying to dive back into the crease and lost his bat in the process. Rashid Khan, fielding at long-off, delivered a direct hit that caught Pretorius well short of his ground.
The run-out ended Pretorius’ innings at 83 off 52 balls, which included eight fours and three sixes. The young batter was visibly disappointed as he walked back to the pavilion, shaking his head in disbelief.
Paarl Royals Secure Victory
Despite the untimely dismissal of Pretorius, the Paarl Royals managed to chase down the target of 159 with ease. Captain David Miller ensured there were no hiccups, finishing the game with an unbeaten 24 off 20 balls. He was well-supported by Dinesh Karthik, who contributed a quick 10 off 6 balls before being run out.
The Royals sealed the win with six wickets in hand and an over to spare.
