Sitanshu Kotak, a well-known figure in domestic cricket, is all set to join the Indian team as the new batting coach. His appointment comes just ahead of India’s limited-overs series against England at home, which will include five T20I matches and three ODIs. This series will be India’s first bilateral series after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Sitanshu Kotak’s New Role in the Indian Team

A source from the BCCI confirmed that Kotak has been asked to join the team for the T20Is against England as the batting coach. The current coaching team for the Indian team includes head coach Gautam Gambhir, with Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistants, Morne Morkel as the bowling coach, and T Dilip as the fielding coach.

Kotak’s appointment comes at a time when the BCCI is reviewing Gautam Gambhir’s role as head coach, especially after India’s performance in the upcoming Champions Trophy. Reports of unrest within the team, possibly due to Gambhir’s efforts to break the long-standing “superstar culture,” have added to the tension.

Since Gambhir took over in July, India has faced some struggles, including six losses in 10 Tests and a series defeat in Sri Lanka. These results have put the future of some top players, like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, in doubt. Gambhir himself has also been under pressure, with rumors of a rift between him and the players during the Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia.
