Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has expressed his willingness to take on the role of India’s batting coach, stating he is “available” for the position. This comes amid reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating expanding the Indian men’s cricket team’s coaching staff.
BCCI Exploring Staff Expansion
As per a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI is considering adding new members to the current coaching setup, headed by Gautam Gambhir. The existing team includes bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, and fielding coach T Dilip. However, the lack of a dedicated batting coach has been highlighted following India’s struggles during their recent tour Down Under.
The board has reportedly begun internal discussions about addressing this gap, especially after a review meeting held last week in Mumbai. While no official announcement has been made, sources suggest that the BCCI is keen on strengthening the support staff to address technical flaws and improve batting performances.
Kevin Pietersen’s Interest in the Role
Amid these developments, Pietersen publicly expressed his availability for the role.
The former England star, known for his aggressive batting style and vast international experience, has not previously held a formal coaching position with a national team. However, his potential appointment could bring a fresh perspective to India’s batting lineup.
