The 36th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 is underway between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at The Gabba, Brisbane. Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and opted to field first.

Brisbane Heat captain Usman Khawaja, who returned to BBL after his stint in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, delivered a fiery knock. Khawaja smashed 23 runs off just nine balls, hitting three boundaries and a massive six. His explosive batting set the tone for Brisbane Heat’s innings.

However, Nathan Ellis had the last laugh against Khawaja in the fourth over. Using a slower delivery at 110 kmph, Ellis outsmarted Khawaja, who stepped out to hit over mid-on but mistimed it. The ball landed safely in the hands of Doran at mid-on, sending Khawaja back to the pavilion.

Match Situation

At the end of 18 overs, Brisbane Heat stands at 178 for 4, scoring at a run rate of 9.89. Marnus Labuschagne is batting brilliantly on 66 off 40 balls, supported by wicketkeeper Tom Alsop, who has contributed 32 runs from 23 deliveries. Matt Renshaw also played a handy knock of 40 runs from 25 balls before being run out.

Among the bowlers, Mitchell Owen and Marcus Bean managed to take a wicket each, while Nathan Ellis picked up the crucial wicket of Khawaja.

With two overs remaining, Brisbane Heat will target a strong finish, while Hobart Hurricanes will look to restrict them under 200.
