The 36th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 saw a dramatic moment during Brisbane Heat’s innings against Hobart Hurricanes at The Gabba. Matt Renshaw, who looked set for a big score, was run out in an unusual manner, ending his innings on 40 off 26 balls.
It happened on the fourth ball of the 10th over when Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne were batting together. Renshaw flicked a length delivery towards deep backward square leg and pushed for a quick second run. Tim David, stationed at the boundary, made a sharp throw to the keeper Matthew Wade, who collected the ball and broke the stumps.
The decision was referred to the TV umpire, and the replay showed that Renshaw’s dive could not save him as he fell short of his crease. The unfortunate run out broke a promising partnership and left Brisbane Heat three wickets down at 103 runs.
