Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Scorchers restricted the Strikers to 161 in 19.1 overs. Liam Scott played a lone hand for the visitors, scoring 67 off 43 balls with four fours and five sixes.
Matthew Short chipped in with a quick 40 off 21 deliveries, but the rest of the Strikers’ batting lineup faltered against the Scorchers’ disciplined bowling attack. Jason Behrendorff and Mahli Beardman stood out with three wickets each, while Lance Morris claimed two crucial dismissals.
Chasing 162, the Scorchers started strongly with Sam Fanning providing early momentum, scoring 29 off 20 balls before being run out. Contributions from Aaron Hardie (28 off 17) and Ashton Turner (21 off 18) kept the chase on track.
However, it was Cooper Connolly who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 39 off 21 balls, including four massive sixes, to guide his team to victory in just 16.2 overs.
The win saw the Scorchers leapfrog the Melbourne Renegades to claim fourth place on the points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, the Adelaide Strikers’ defeat confirmed their elimination from the tournament.
