Vidarbha opener Dhruv Shorey showcased his brilliance yet again, scoring his third consecutive century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final against Karnataka on Saturday in Vadodara. The former Delhi player achieved a remarkable feat with centuries in the quarter-final, semi-final, and now the final of the tournament.

Shorey’s exceptional knock of 110 runs off 111 balls, laced with eight boundaries and two sixes, gave Vidarbha hope as they chased a massive target of 349. Vidarbha had opted to field first after winning the toss, but Karnataka’s middle order rose to the occasion. Ravichandran Smaran hit a century, while K Shrijith (78 off 74) and Abhinav Manohar (79 off 42) provided strong support. Karnataka finished their innings at an imposing 348/6 in 50 overs.

Dhruv Shorey Keeps Vidarbha’s Chase Alive

Despite Vidarbha relying heavily on skipper Karun Nair throughout the tournament, Nair managed only 27 runs off 31 balls before falling to Prasidh Krishna. With Vidarbha in a tough spot, Dhruv Shorey took charge and delivered a stellar performance. Shorey’s technique and temperament stood out as he kept Vidarbha’s hopes alive, though they eventually fell short in the high-stakes final by 36 runs.

Dhruv Shorey’s IPL journey began with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. However, he played just two matches across those seasons, scoring a total of 13 runs.

For the IPL 2025 mega auction, Shorey registered himself with a base price of Rs 30 lakh but did not make it to the final list of 574 players up for bidding. As a result, he will not feature in any IPL team for the 2025 season.
