Naveen-ul-Haq’s brilliant stroke play in the final over added much-needed runs for Durban Super Giants (DSG) against Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) in the recent SA20 match at St George’s Park, Gqeberha. Despite a tough start for the Super Giants, Naveen’s quickfire 30 off 15 balls included a thrilling assault on Ottneil Baartman in the last over.
Drama in the Final Over
The 20th over began with Junior Dala taking a single, leaving Naveen on strike. The Afghanistan pacer wasted no time as he hammered Baartman for a huge six on the very next ball. A slower delivery was slog-swept over long-on, clearing the ropes with ease.
The action continued as Naveen attempted a reverse sweep but missed, followed by a wide bouncer that added an extra to the scoreboard. On the fourth ball, Naveen executed a perfectly timed reverse sweep, sending the ball over the short third fielder for a boundary.
Baartman’s slower ball on the fifth delivery forced Naveen to reach out, resulting in a top edge that landed safely for two runs. The DSG batter showed incredible composure, adding 18 runs in the over and taking his team past the 100-run mark.
Naveen-ul-Haq’s late blitz helped DSG finish at 115/8 in their 20 overs. Apart from him, it was Kane Williamson (44) who scored in double digits for Durban.
