The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will not be pleased with the performance of their overseas stars in the first T20I between India and England at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. The trio of Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell, who were recently acquired by RCB in the IPL 2025 auction, struggled to make any impact, leaving England in deep trouble.

Phil Salt Falls for a Duck

Phil Salt, bought by RCB for a whopping ₹11.50 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, started England’s innings but departed without troubling the scorers. On the third ball of the match, Arshdeep Singh bowled a short delivery that seamed off the deck. Salt, caught in an awkward position, edged it to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and walked back for a three-ball duck.

Liam Livingstone Misses Out

Liam Livingstone, another high-profile acquisition by RCB for ₹8.75 crore, also failed to deliver. Coming in at a critical juncture, Livingstone faced Varun Chakravarthy’s lethal googly. He exposed his stumps while attempting an off-side drive, but the ball turned sharply and uprooted the leg stump. Livingstone’s innings ended in just two balls, leaving England reeling.

Jacob Bethell’s Slow Knock

Jacob Bethell, a young talent signed by RCB, failed to make an impact as well. He managed just 7 runs off 14 deliveries before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya. Bethell’s inability to rotate the strike added pressure on the team, and his dismissal further derailed England’s innings.

Bethell, seen as a promising player for the future, will need to adapt quickly to perform in high-pressure situations like the IPL.

Disappointing Outing for RCB’s Investments

RCB’s overseas trio combined for a total of just 7 runs in 19 balls in the first T20I. Their poor performance will undoubtedly be a concern for the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

RCB will hope that their overseas stars can regain form before the IPL begins, as performances like this could hurt their campaign in the tournament.
