Sanju Samson showcased his explosive batting skills during the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Wednesday. Chasing a modest target of 132, Samson went after England pacer Gus Atkinson in his very first over, smashing him for 22 runs in a spectacular display of clean hitting.
The fireworks began with back-to-back boundaries on the first two balls, setting the tone for the over. While Atkinson managed to deliver a dot ball on the third delivery, Samson responded with a towering six off the fourth ball. The onslaught didn’t stop there, as Samson ended the over with consecutive boundaries.

Varun Chakravarthy Spins a Web
Earlier, India’s spinners played a key role in dismantling England’s batting lineup. Varun Chakravarthy was the standout performer, picking up crucial wickets and finishing with figures of 3/23. He broke a dangerous 48-run partnership between Jos Buttler and Harry Brook, dismissing Brook and Liam Livingstone in the same over.
Jos Buttler, the England captain, stood as the lone warrior with a fighting 68 off 44 balls. However, he received no significant support from the other end, as England collapsed under the pressure exerted by India’s spinners and seamers.
Arshdeep Singh, who became India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is during the match, set the tone early by dismissing Ben Duckett and Phil Salt. Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring England was bowled out for a below-par 132.
