The Cyber Crime Cell of the Goa Police has blocked 157 websites and social media accounts over the past two months. This decisive action includes the blocking of 61 illegal gambling sites, marking a major step in curbing online scams and financial exploitation.
As reported by Times of India, Cyber Crime Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta confirmed the development, noting that these measures were taken under Section 168 of the BNSS, Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act, and Rule 3(1)(d) of the IT Rules. “Online gambling has long been a serious concern due to numerous instances of fraud and financial exploitation,” Gupta stated in a media release. “The blocking of these websites aims to protect vulnerable individuals from falling victim to such fraudulent activities.”
Since November 2024, the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ribandar has actively pursued cases involving illegal online gambling, fraudulent websites, and offensive content. Investigations into these blocked sites are currently underway to identify those responsible for the operations.
This latest action follows the Cyber Cell’s earlier efforts, which resulted in the blocking of 96 websites, social media posts, and accounts under the IT Act. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal online activities to ensure timely action.
The Goa Police’s proactive measures are part of a broader effort to maintain online safety and protect citizens from cybercrime. With investigations ongoing, the Cyber Crime Cell has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the growing threat of online scams and gambling.
