Babar Azam’s struggles with the bat continued in the ongoing second Test against West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium. He scored just one run in the first innings and 31 runs in the second.

Once regarded as Pakistan’s finest batter, Babar has hit a rough patch in Test cricket. His last century came on November 26, 2022, against New Zealand in Karachi, where he scored 161 runs. Since then, the star batter has been unable to reach triple figures.

In 2023, Babar Azam managed only 559 runs in 24 innings, averaging 23.29. With his poor form showing no signs of improvement, Pakistan might consider giving opportunities to other batters. Here are three players who could replace Babar Azam in the Test team:

1. Azan Awais

Azan Awais, a left-handed batter from Sialkot, had a remarkable season in the 2024-25 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He scored 844 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 76.72, including four centuries and two half-centuries.

Though Azan usually bats as an opener, he could be slotted at number three in the Test side. Pairing Saim Ayub with Shan Masood at the top could further strengthen Pakistan’s batting lineup.

2. Maaz Sadaqat

Nineteen-year-old Maaz Sadaqat from Peshawar has shown great promise in domestic cricket. In the recent Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he scored 646 runs in 11 innings at an average of 64.60, including a century and six half-centuries.

Maaz’s technique and ability to handle pressure make him a potential candidate to fill the void in Pakistan’s middle order.

3. Sahibzada Farhan

Sahibzada Farhan has been one of the most consistent batters in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. The right-handed batter has amassed 4,646 First-Class runs in 105 innings at an impressive average of 45.54, with ten centuries and 27 half-centuries to his name.

Farhan’s experience and stroke play make him a strong contender to replace Babar Azam in the Test side.
