The 14th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) culminated with the Hobart Hurricanes clinching their maiden title in style. Playing in front of a packed home crowd at the Bellerive Oval, they defeated the Sydney Thunder by seven wickets with 35 balls to spare, capping off an unforgettable season.

Hobart Hurricanes’ Road to Glory

Electing to field first, the Hurricanes faced an aggressive start by the Thunder, who raced to 58/0 in the powerplay. Jason Sangha’s 67 and a solid opening partnership set the Thunder up for a big total. However, Nathan Ellis and Riley Meredith turned the game around with crucial breakthroughs, limiting the Thunder to 182/7.

In reply, Mitchell Owen played a record-breaking knock, smashing 108 off just 42 balls, including 11 sixes. His 39-ball century ensured the Hurricanes chased down the target in just 14.1 overs, securing their first-ever BBL trophy.
