India’s fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, was named the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 on January 27. He had a fantastic year, taking 71 wickets in 13 Test matches. His strong performances were crucial for India in both home and away series against top teams like England and Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Outstanding Performance in 2024
Bumrah started 2024 with an impressive performance in Cape Town against South Africa, where he took six wickets in the second innings of the Test. Later, in the series against England, he took 19 wickets in four matches. In the first Test in Hyderabad, Bumrah took six wickets, and in the next Test in Visakhapatnam, he claimed nine wickets. His efforts in Visakhapatnam earned him the Player of the Match award and made him the world’s No. 1 Test bowler at that time.
Bumrah also performed well in the series against Bangladesh, picking up 11 wickets. In the New Zealand series, he took three wickets in the first two matches.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Bumrah led India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. In the first Test, he took eight wickets, helping India win by 295 runs. He continued his great form in the second Test, taking four wickets in the Day-Night Test at Adelaide and finishing with nine wickets in both the third and fourth Tests.
Bumrah is now the sixth Indian cricketer to win this prestigious award. He joins the list of legends like Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli. Bumrah’s award win was a tough competition, as he defeated strong contenders like Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Kamindu Mendis.
