The Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 final between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder is taking place at the Bellerive Oval. Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, the decision didn’t work well in the initial overs as Sydney Thunder openers, David Warner and Jason Sangha, built a strong 97-run partnership in just 62 balls.

The game turned when Hobart Hurricanes’ skipper, Nathan Ellis, came to bowl his second over in the 11th. Ellis, who had been economical in his first over, delivered a magical spell that changed the match’s momentum.

Ellis Dismisses Warner and Gilkes in Consecutive Balls

On the second ball of the over, Ellis bowled a slower delivery to David Warner. Warner, who was batting fluently on 48 runs from 32 balls, went for a big shot but edged the ball. Hobart’s wicketkeeper Matthew Wade dived forward and took a low catch brilliantly. The on-field umpire referred it to the third umpire, who confirmed Warner’s dismissal. It was a big moment for the Hurricanes as Warner had been leading his team strongly throughout the tournament.

On the very next ball, Ellis bowled a slower-length delivery to Matthew Gilkes. The batter tried to push it towards the off side but was deceived by the lack of pace. He got an inside edge, and the ball crashed onto his stumps. Gilkes was dismissed for a golden duck, and Ellis celebrated with his teammates as the crowd erupted in joy.

Ellis gave away only two runs in the over, ending with impressive figures of 2 for 10 in two overs. At the end of the 12th over, Sydney Thunder were at 109 for 2, with Jason Sangha batting on 57 and Sam Billings on 3.
