A young man from Maharashtra has turned to crime after becoming addicted to the online game ” In a shocking incident, a young man has turned to crime after becoming addicted to the online game “Junglee Rummy.” The accused, identified as Yogesh Nivas Chavan, was arrested by the Railway Crime Branch team based on CCTV footage and technical evidence. The police recovered jewelry worth ₹7.07 lakh from his possession.
As reported by Abp Live, the incident unfolded on December 6, 2024, when the victim, Rahul Suhas Soni (33), was traveling with his family aboard the Siddheshwar Express from Solapur to Kalyan. During the journey, his mother had placed her shoulder bag with gold jewelry on the tray between the berths and fell asleep. At some point between Mhada and Kalyan stations, an unknown thief stole the bag and its contents while the family was asleep.
Following the theft, Rahul Soni reported the matter to the Kalyan Railway Police, and a case was registered against the unidentified thief. The police launched an investigation, which led to a breakthrough after reviewing CCTV footage from stations between Mhada and Kalyan. The footage showed a suspicious figure, later identified as Yogesh Chavan, behaving unusually during the journey.
Accused Confesses to the Crime
With further investigation and technical analysis, the police tracked down the accused to Chakan in Pune district. A team led by Senior Police Inspector Vijay Khedkar, along with the Cyber Cell and other railway police officials, apprehended Chavan. During questioning, the accused admitted to the theft and revealed that he had sold the stolen jewelry to fund his addiction to the online “Junglee Rummy” game. It was discovered that Chavan had lost all the money he made from selling the jewelry while playing the game.
The railway police have seized jewelry worth ₹7.07 lakh from the accused and have continued their investigation into the case. Senior Inspector Vijay Khedkar confirmed that further inquiries are underway, with Police Head Constable Ravindra Thakur overseeing the investigation.
