Virat Kohli, India’s star batter, recently made headlines by turning down the offer to lead the Delhi team for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Railways. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) had asked Kohli to captain the side, but he politely declined.
Ayush Badoni will now lead the team. This match, which begins on January 30, also marks Kohli’s return to domestic cricket after a 12-year break. On Tuesday, Kohli arrived at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for a practice session with the Delhi team. He joined his teammates for a warm-up, followed by a 15-minute football session.
During his three-hour visit to the ground, the stylish local boy caught the attention of everyone around him, from the young players to the experienced coaches like Sarandeep Singh and Bantu Singh. However, it was Kohli’s former U-19 coach, Mahesh Bhati, who seemed to make him feel most at ease.
The DDCA official shared a light moment when he revealed that Kohli, who has always loved chole puri, had declined the dish that was arranged for him. “He said he didn’t want chole puri,” the official said with a smile. Instead, after practice, Kohli chose to enjoy kadhi chawal with his teammates, just like in the old days.
