The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a packed crowd, which is rare for a Ranji Trophy match. The reason was Virat Kohli, who returned to play domestic cricket after 12 years. Fans came in large numbers to watch him in action.
Virat Kohli Meets Vice President
Before the match, BCCI vice president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Shukla met with Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar. Star batter Virat Kohli was also present during the meeting.
Rajeev Shukla shared a picture of the meeting on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. He wrote, “Lovely to meet honourable Vice President of India Shri Dhankar ji. Glad to have the company of @imVkohli.”
The meeting took place before Delhi’s Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.
Kohli’s Return to Ranji Trophy
Virat Kohli last played a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi in November 2012 against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. His participation in this match follows BCCI’s policy, which encourages Indian players to play domestic cricket when they are available.
His presence attracted a massive crowd. To manage the situation, security personnel were placed near the boundary ropes of the North and West stands. However, during the 12th over, a fan breached security and ran towards Kohli to touch his feet.
As for the match, Railways were bowled out for 241 runs. By the end of the day, Delhi had scored 41 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10 overs. Virat Kohli will come to bat on the second day.
