Delhi off-spinner Shivam Sharma, who played alongside Virat Kohli in the Ranji Trophy match against Railways, shared his thoughts on the serious security breach during Day 3 of the game. Three fans managed to run onto the field to meet Kohli, who was playing his first Ranji Trophy match in over a decade.

During the first session, the fans barged onto the field while Kohli was fielding. Security officials quickly intervened, but before they could take control, all three managed to touch Kohli’s feet. Shivam, who took five wickets in the second innings, said that while it showed Kohli’s immense popularity, such incidents should not happen as they could be dangerous

Virat Kohli’s Reaction to the Incident

Speaking about the incident, Shivam revealed that Kohli asked security not to beat any of the fans who had entered the field.

“It is just Virat bhaiya’s craze that this happened. It shouldn’t have happened. Someone could have come in carrying anything. Virat bhaiya said to security that ‘kisi ko maarna mat’ (Don’t beat up anyone),” Shivam said, as quoted by PTI.

Kohli returned to the Ranji Trophy after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced new rules, making it mandatory for centrally contracted players to participate in domestic matches when not playing for India.

Kohli’s last international appearance was in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where he struggled with the bat, scoring just 190 runs in five Tests.

Delhi, led by Ayush Badoni, won the match against Railways by an innings and 19 runs, despite Kohli’s low score.

With the Ranji Trophy match done, Kohli will now join the Indian team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting on February 6. After that, Team India will travel to Dubai for the Champions Trophy 2025, which begins on February 19.
