Joburg Super Kings all-rounder Donovan Ferreira gave his team a fighting chance with a breathtaking knock in the 29th match of SA20 2025 at The Wanderers, Johannesburg. When Joburg Super Kings looked down and out, Ferreira turned the game on its head with some brutal hitting, especially against Durban’s Super Giants skipper Keshav Maharaj.

Donovan Ferreira Smashes 22 Runs in an Over

Chasing a revised target of 147 in 16 overs, Joburg Super Kings were struggling. They kept losing wickets, and the required run rate was climbing. Just when it seemed there was no hope left, Donovan Ferreira stepped up.

In the 14th over, Maharaj came to bowl, and Ferreira took him apart. He smashed three sixes, followed by a four, collecting 22 runs in that over. The big hits shifted the momentum, and Joburg Super Kings were suddenly back in the contest.

A Fighting Half-Century, But Not Enough

Ferreira reached his half-century in just 21 balls. He did not stop there and continued his attack, this time against Naveen-ul-Haq in the next over. His explosive batting had Joburg Super Kings inching closer to victory.

However, his heroic effort came to an end in the final over when Dwaine Pretorius dismissed him for 51 off 22 balls. His wicket proved to be the final blow for Joburg Super Kings, as they fell short by 11 runs via the DLS method.

Despite the loss, Ferreira’s knock was the biggest talking point of the match. His clean hitting almost pulled off an incredible win, making it one of the most thrilling moments of the tournament.
