Virat Kohli is on the verge of rewriting history as he gears up for the three-match ODI series against England, starting on February 6. The star batter needs just 94 runs to surpass Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s milestone and become the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs in One-Day Internationals.

Virat Kohli on the Verge of a Major Record

Tendulkar reached the 14,000-run mark in his 350th ODI innings against Pakistan in Peshawar in February 2006. He had scored a century in that game, but India lost by seven runs (DLS method). Kohli, on the other hand, has amassed 13,906 runs in just 283 ODI innings, with an impressive average of 58.18 and a strike rate of 93.54. If he scores 94 runs in the first ODI, he will achieve the landmark in just 284 innings, shattering Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

Virat Kohli’s ODI Stats

  • Matches Played: 292

  • Runs Scored: 13,906
  • Average: 58.18
  • Strike Rate: 93.54

Kohli already surpassed Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries during the 2023 World Cup, when he scored his 50th hundred. Tendulkar had finished his legendary career with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs, holding the record for the most runs in the format.

India’s Squad Arrives in Nagpur

As the Indian team prepares for the first ODI in Nagpur, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and others have already reached the venue. The squad for this series remains unchanged from the one selected for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with only one change—Harshit Rana replacing Jasprit Bumrah for the first two ODIs.

India’s Winning Momentum

India enters the ODI series with strong momentum after defeating England 4-1 in the recently concluded T20I series. In the final match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Abhishek Sharma’s all-round performance helped India secure another convincing victory.
