MI Cape Town set a big total of 199 runs while batting first in the first qualifier of SA20 2025. Paarl Royals had a tough challenge of chasing 200 runs to book a spot in the final. However, their openers came out all guns blazing and took Trent Boult to the cleaners in the very first over.

Paarl Royals Openers Attack Boult

Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Mitchell Owen gave Paarl Royals a fiery start. In the first over, Pretorius smashed Boult for two boundaries and a six, while Owen also joined the party with a six. The over ended with 21 runs on the board, giving Paarl Royals the perfect start to their chase.

However, their joy was short-lived. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Pretorius on the first ball of the second over. Pretorius managed to score 15 runs off just six balls. Mitchell Owen also couldn’t last long, as Boult made a comeback and dismissed him on the first ball of the third over. Owen scored seven runs from three balls.

Paarl Royals Struggle After Quick Wickets

After losing both openers early, Paarl Royals struggled to build partnerships. Rubin Hermann was the next to fall, managing just two runs from seven balls. Dayyaan Galiem and Dunith Wellalage tried to steady the innings, but they too got out before making a big impact.

At the time of writing, Paarl Royals were at 89 for 5 in 10.4 overs. Captain David Miller was holding one end, batting on 28 runs from 17 balls, while Dinesh Karthik was at the crease with him. With five wickets down, Paarl Royals needed a big effort from their middle order to stay in the game.
