England captain Jos Buttler wants his team to play one-day cricket like India. He praised Rohit Sharma for changing India’s approach in the 50-over format. Buttler said that England would continue to attack the opposition, even if they lose matches in India.
Rohit Sharma led from the front in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He played aggressively and scored 597 runs at a strike rate of 125.94. His average in the tournament was 54.27. In the final against Australia, he scored 47 runs from just 31 balls, but India lost the match.
Rohit continued his aggressive style in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which was played in the USA and the West Indies.
Buttler Wants England to Follow India’s Template
Speaking before the first ODI in Nagpur, Jos Buttler explained the importance of playing with a clear strategy.
“India and Australia played attacking cricket in the World Cup, and both reached the final. Travis Head played brilliantly in the final and helped Australia win. This style can bring success,” Buttler said.
“Rohit deserves credit for India’s white-ball cricket in the last few years. We want to follow the same style,” he added.
Buttler is confident that England can succeed in the three-match ODI series.
“We want to put pressure on the opposition with the bat. We also have to take wickets with the ball. If you let them bat freely, it will be difficult to win,” he said.
“We must execute our plans on the field. Whether attacking or playing cautiously, execution is the most important thing,” he concluded.
