Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma strongly responded to the media for questioning him about his future in international cricket. With his form dipping and age nearing 38, speculations have been growing about his role in the team after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, Rohit made it clear that his focus remains on the present matches rather than addressing such talks.

Rohit and Kohli Gearing Up for Champions Trophy 2025

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned to India’s ODI squad for the series against England. Both are looking to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They are among the only three players left from India’s victorious Champions Trophy squad of 2013, when India defeated England in the final at Edgbaston.

However, their current form has raised concerns. Both players struggled in India’s Test series against Australia. Even after returning home, they couldn’t find their rhythm in domestic cricket.

Rohit Slams Media for Future Questions

Ahead of the first ODI against England, Rohit was asked about his plans after the Champions Trophy. He dismissed such questions, stating that he is focused only on the present.

“How is it relevant to talk about my future when we have three ODIs and a Champions Trophy ahead? These reports have been coming for years, and I am not here to clarify them,” Rohit said during the pre-match press conference.

“The three matches against England and the Champions Trophy are very important for me. My focus is on these games, and I will see what happens after that,” he added.

What’s Next for Rohit and Team India?

After the Champions Trophy, India will travel to England for a five-match Test series in June. This will be the first series of their new World Test Championship cycle.

Rohit’s Test form has been a major concern. He managed only 31 runs in five innings during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, averaging just 6.20.

Reports suggest that young players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are being considered for leadership roles in the future. Gill, who is already the vice-captain in ODIs, could be a strong candidate to take over full-time captaincy soon.
