The situation quickly turned into a stampede-like scene, with some fans fainting, while others struggled to stay on their feet due to the overcrowded ticket counters.

The crowd’s chaotic behavior was fueled by a lack of crowd management, and this led to significant disorder. Fans expressed frustration with the administration, pointing out the poor planning and lack of proper facilities. Many complained about the absence of basic amenities, including drinking water, and the failure to establish proper exit routes, making the situation worse as tensions rose among the crowd.

Thousands of cricket fans had gathered near Barabati Stadium on Tuesday night, hoping to secure tickets for the match. By Wednesday morning, long queues had already formed, and some fans had spent the night outside the stadium to ensure they wouldn’t miss the chance to watch their favorite players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

In response to the chaos, the local police, under the leadership of DCP Jagmohan Meena, took immediate action. Multiple police platoons were deployed to manage the crowd and ensure public safety. The authorities are now focused on streamlining the ticketing process to prevent further issues.
