Shreyas Iyer has often struggled against short-pitched deliveries, facing both criticism and trolling for his weakness. However, he seems to have worked on it and has turned things around. In the first ODI against England at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, he proved his improvement by smashing back-to-back sixes off Jofra Archer’s short balls.
Shreyas Iyer Punishes Jofra Archer’s Short-Pitched Strategy
Iyer walked in to bat when India was struggling at 19/2. Jofra Archer, aware of Iyer’s past struggles, tested him with short-pitched deliveries. But instead of falling into the trap, the Indian batter took the challenge head-on.
On the fifth ball of the seventh over, Iyer pulled a short ball into the crowd, sending it to the second or third row of the stadium. Archer tried again with another short delivery on the very next ball, but this time, Iyer played an upper-cut shot similar to Virender Sehwag, sending the ball for another six.
