Rubin Hermann played a brilliant innings for Paarl Royals, scoring an unbeaten 81 off 53 balls, but his efforts were not enough as Sunrisers Eastern Cape chased down the target comfortably to enter the SA20 final for the third consecutive time.
Rubin Hermann Anchors Paarl Royals’ Innings
Batting first, Paarl Royals lost Mitchell Owen early, but Hermann steadied the innings along with Lhuan-dre Pretorius. The duo stitched a 99-run partnership, with Pretorius scoring 59 off 41 balls before getting out in the 13th over.
Hermann continued to hold one end and accelerated towards the end. He struck eight fours and three sixes in his 53-ball stay, ensuring Paarl Royals reached a competitive total of 175/4 in 20 overs. Andile Phehlukwayo chipped in with 22 off 11 balls to provide some finishing touch.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape bowlers kept things under control despite Hermann’s attacking knock. Craig Overton, Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, and Ottneil Baartman took a wicket each.
Sunrisers Chase Down the Target Easily
Hermann’s efforts with the bat were not enough as Sunrisers Eastern Cape chased down the target with ease. Tony de Zorzi led the charge, scoring 78 off 49 balls, while Jordan Hermann played a solid supporting role with an unbeaten 69 off 48 deliveries.
The Sunrisers batters never looked in trouble and comfortably reached 177/2 in 19.2 overs. Paarl Royals’ bowlers struggled to make an impact, with Dunith Wellalage and Kwena Maphaka being the only wicket-takers.
Despite Rubin Hermann’s brilliant knock, Paarl Royals were knocked out of the tournament, while Sunrisers Eastern Cape marched into another SA20 final, aiming to defend their title.
