Harshit Rana is making a name for himself in international cricket. The young fast bowler has impressed across formats, picking up wickets in every game he has played. He took three wickets in his debut Test against Australia in Perth, followed by three more in his first T20I against England in Pune. In his first ODI against England in Nagpur, he once again dismissed three batters.
Why Harshit Rana Was Picked Over Siraj
With such strong performances, Rana has now moved ahead of Mohammed Siraj in ODI cricket. The selectors and team management have shown more faith in him, preferring him over the experienced pacer for the ODI series against England.
India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, explained the decision behind choosing Rana over Siraj. “Siraj’s impact goes down with the old ball, and he cannot deliver consistently. We needed a bowler who could bowl well with the new ball, middle overs, and in the last phase of the match,” he said during the team announcement for the England series and the ICC Champions Trophy.
Parthiv Patel’s Take on the Selection
Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel also shared his views on the decision. While answering a fan’s question during the first ODI against England, he backed the move to pick Rana over Siraj.
“Harshit Rana is a better bowler than Mohammed Siraj, as the latter can’t bowl well with the old ball. Rana can create an impact with the old ball, and that’s why he is in the team,” Parthiv said.
With selectors and experts backing him, Harshit Rana seems to have a bright future ahead. His ability to perform across different match situations has made him a strong contender in India’s pace attack.
