Nagpur Police Busts Betting Racket During India vs England Match

Nagpur Police’s Crime Branch Unit 3 dismantled an illegal betting operation during the India vs England ODI cricket match. The operation took place within the jurisdiction of Beltarodi Police Station on Thursday, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of betting-related materials worth ₹2,51,300.

According to a report by The Live Nagpur, the arrested individuals were identified as Akash Mahesh Hinduja (30) from Raipur, Chhattisgarh; Narayan Kumar Nandkishore Gound (22) from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh; and Abid Sheikh Akalim Sheikh (21) from Nagpur, Maharashtra. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the location and caught the accused placing bets.

During the raid, authorities recovered multiple electronic devices and accessories used in betting activities. The seized items included two laptops (HP and ASUS) valued at ₹90,000, UCN broadband equipment worth ₹10,000, nine multimedia mobile phones worth ₹1,50,000, two laptop chargers valued at ₹1,000, and a Casio calculator worth ₹300.

Following the operation, the arrested individuals and seized materials were handed over to Beltarodi Police Station. Legal proceedings were initiated under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Act. Police investigations are ongoing to determine if the racket is part of a larger network.

Illegal betting remains a significant issue in India, especially during major sporting events. Authorities continue to crack down on such operations to prevent financial crimes linked to unlawful gambling. The Nagpur Crime Branch has urged citizens to report any suspicious betting activities to help curb illegal gambling.
