A thrilling moment unfolded in the SA20 2025 final as MI Cape Town batter Connor Esterhuizen took on Sunrisers Eastern Cape skipper Aiden Markram in the 17th over. Markram, who brought himself into the attack, was put under pressure immediately as Esterhuizen smashed him for two massive sixes followed by a boundary. However, the captain held his nerve and dismissed him on the fifth ball of the over, turning the tide back in his team’s favor.
Markram flighted the ball full and wide outside off, forcing Esterhuizen to reach for it. The batter, high on confidence after three big hits, attempted another lofted shot over long-off but mistimed it. The ball went off the toe end of his bat, lacking the elevation needed. Marco Jansen, stationed at long-off, sprinted forward and took a brilliant catch with fingers pointing upwards. Markram gave Esterhuizen a stare as the batter walked back after a quickfire 39 off 26 balls.
