E-Gaming Federation Partners with UNICEF India to Strengthen Child Safety in Digital Gaming

The E-Gaming Federation (EGF) hosted the second episode of its Manthan Series in collaboration with UNICEF India as the session’s knowledge partner to focus on child safety in the digital gaming ecosystem.

According to ANI, the session titled “Child Safety in a Connected World” gathered key stakeholders from the gaming industry, government, and child rights organizations. It addressed critical concerns surrounding children’s safety while engaging in online gaming, especially as participation among young players continues to grow.

Prominent speakers included Shri Nishant Kumar from the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs; Shri Rakesh Maheshwari, former Group Coordinator at MeitY; Major Sadhna Singh, Consultant at NITI Aayog; Amrita Choudhury, Director of CCAOI; and Vineet Kumar, Founder of the Cyber Peace Foundation. These experts highlighted the need for collaborative frameworks to ensure the protection of children in digital gaming spaces.

Anurag Saxena, CEO of the E-Gaming Federation, emphasized the industry’s responsibility in ensuring a safe gaming environment for children. He stated, ”Ensuring child safety in the digital space goes beyond just gaming—it is about fostering digital well-being and literacy from an early age. As India progresses towards the vision of Viksit Bharath, equipping children with the right tools to navigate the online world safely is crucial. Through initiatives, policy, and responsible digital engagement, we aim to create a safer and more informed digital future for the next generation.”

AI, Mental Health, and Parental Controls: Ensuring a Safer Gaming Experience

Key discussions covered the adoption of AI-driven moderation tools to detect and prevent inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and exploitation on gaming platforms. UNICEF India presented its initiatives aimed at promoting digital literacy, equipping children with tools to navigate online spaces safely, and educating parents on best practices for online safety.

The event also explored the psychological impact of online gaming on children and the importance of mental health support. Gaming platforms were urged to include mental health resources and support systems. Discussions included challenges faced by parents in monitoring their children’s gaming activities and the need for comprehensive parental guidance tools.

Speakers emphasized that gaming companies must implement stringent child protection measures, including age verification systems, parental controls, and regular content audits. They highlighted successful case studies where gaming companies introduced child safety features effectively.

Additionally, there was a focus on the role of educational institutions in spreading awareness about safe gaming habits. The involvement of schools and teachers in educating children about the potential risks of online gaming was stressed.

The session also highlighted government initiatives aimed at regulating the digital gaming space and ensuring child safety through legal frameworks. The need for constant innovation in digital safety tools and policies was discussed at length.

The event concluded with a collective commitment to enhance child safety in digital gaming through continuous innovation, regulatory compliance, and awareness campaigns.
