IPL 2025: KKR vs RCB to Kick Off Season Opener at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to begin on Saturday, March 22, with an exciting clash between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

As per tradition, the season opener will be hosted in the home city of the defending champions. KKR, who lifted the IPL 2024 trophy, will look to start their campaign on a strong note against RCB, who have appointed Rajat Patidar as their new captain for the upcoming season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad to Begin at Home Against Rajasthan Royals

The runner-up of IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), will also play their first match at home. They will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, March 23, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad. This match will be an afternoon game.

IPL 2025 Final to be Held in Kolkata

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially announce the full IPL 2025 schedule, but key fixtures have reportedly been shared with franchises. According to sources, the IPL 2025 final will take place on May 25 (Sunday) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, following the traditional rule of hosting the final in the home city of the defending champions.

Expanded Venues for IPL 2025

This season, IPL matches will be played at 12 different venues across India, including the regular centers and a few additional locations:

Regular IPL Venues:

  • Ahmedabad
  • Mumbai
  • Chennai
  • Bengaluru
  • Lucknow
  • Mullanpur (Punjab)
  • Delhi
  • Jaipur
  • Kolkata
  • Hyderabad

New & Additional Venues for IPL 2025:

  • Guwahati: Rajasthan Royals will play two home games here on March 26 and March 30 against Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • Dharamsala: Punjab Kings will host two or three matches in Himachal Pradesh, similar to last season.

The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be held in Hyderabad, while Qualifier 2 and the Final will take place in Kolkata.

When Will the Full IPL 2025 Schedule Be Released?

The complete IPL 2025 schedule is expected to be officially announced by the BCCI in the next few days. Fans can look forward to another thrilling season with matches across multiple venues and exciting contests from the very first game.
